Orthodontics for Teens

Adolescent or teen years (between the ages of 11 and 15) is the most common time common time our patients begin to see an orthodontist. That’s because at this age, most, if not all of the permanent teeth have erupted.
Experienced orthodontists like Dr. Vaught and Dr. Kate are easily able to recognize problems with crowding, spacing, bite, bite, and alignment in this age range. These problems rarely correct themselves on their own and prompt most parents to seek recommendations for orthodontic treatment. Beyond outward appearances, untreated dental problems can have a lasting impact on your teen’s oral and overall health.
Many children in this age range start their treatment around the same time as their friends so it is more socially accepted. Also, adolescents and teens are more aware at this age of crooked teeth, gaps, and bad bites because their appearance is so important. Because they are more conscious of these bite issues, most patients are excited to get braces or other treatment started.
We all know that teenagers can’t wait to get braces on and are even more anxious to finish with their new smile.
